Neo-True-Indie (NTI)” is NOT a musical genre, but rather a descriptive term for a type of artist and their method of operation in the digital music landscape.
The Neo-True-Indie (NTI) artist embodies the spirit of complete creative autonomy in the digital age. Empowered by accessible technology and direct-to-audience platforms, the NTI artist is a self-sufficient creative force. They conceive, produce, record, and often distribute their music entirely on their own terms, leveraging digital audio workstations, virtual instruments, and online collaboration tools. Eschewing the traditional gatekeepers of the music industry, the NTI artist builds their own ecosystem, connecting directly with fans through social media, streaming services, and independent marketplaces. Their independence isn’t just a choice; it’s a mastery of the modern musical landscape, where passion, skill, and digital fluency converge to forge a unique and authentic artistic path.
Please note: Neo-True-Indie (NTI) is not, and should not be considered, a musical genre. It is a term used solely to define the artistic method and the independent nature of the artist.
Also note: Once an NTI artist signs to a record label and enters into contracts within the traditional music industry, and/or collaborates with several other editors, producers, managers, etc., they are no longer considered a Neo-True-Indie artist, as their creative and business decisions are no longer entirely independent.
The term Neo-True-Indie (NTI) was first used by Daniel Broadfield in May 2025 to define a new wave of truly independent music artists.
